Sawyer Gas Demo Stage

Taste and learn at the demo stage on the corner of Laura & Monroe within Hemming Park on March 18th during GastroFest. Sponsored by Sawyer Gas, who has also provided the gas cooking burner for the stage.
Noon-1pm Chef Kurt D’Aurizio of Provision will be demonstrating vegan dishes featuring local produce from Down to Earth Farm and Urban Folk Farms and his FauxMage Cashew Cheeses and farm-driven sauces and marinades. Fresh, local, seasonal, and delicious!

2-3pm Healthy Eats Join Heather Borders with Kailo Nutrition as she demonstrates how to prepare creative plant-based dishes that are deceptively filling, quick to prepare, and easily modified to match taste preferences. Let her prove just how delicious healthy can be!

3:30-4pm Rum Balls Learn and taste the art of the rum ball from rum cake masters Rummies & Yummies. Find them in our marketplace during the fest!

4:15-4:45pm Glorious Cheese Workshop If you were wondering how you should arrange your cheese plate, Saturiwa has you covered at this cheese talk and demo where they talk cheese, and you can sample!

5-6pm Congaree & Penn, our local Jacksonville rice-growers, take the stage for a demo of their divine products, found in locally sourced restaurants and our marketplace!

Jax Makerspace at the Library

Find informational resources on culinary and sustainability topics supporting local initiatives during GastroFest on March 18th at the Main Library in the Makerspace. Pop in for a free workshop!

Noon-3pm Recycled Arts Repurposing everyday materials into personalized works of art with a focus on environmental sustainability, with crafts and activities for all ages.

1pm Clean Green Kitchen Join The Organic Adventurer for a workshop where you can learn to make your own sustainable, nontoxic cleaning and personal care products from common pantry staples for a truly clean home and better health, plus savings!

2pm Fleet Farming Riverside With consent from the homeowner, Fleet Farming constructs, maintains, owns and operates a portfolio of highly productive small farms (farmlettes) within a neighborhood’s network of front, side and backyards. Fleet Farming “sharecrops” with homeowners, offering a small percentage of each harvest to the host family.

4:15pm Honey Spinning & Tasting Bees keep our food growing and have inspired people all over the country to take up beekeeping! Learn a little from the experts from Bee Friends Farm and stop by their booth afterwards in the GastroFest Marketplace!

Special Events Tent

Come to this tent on the corner of Monroe & Laura Street just outside of Hemming Park on March 18th during GastroFest, near the Laura Street Tasting Zone, for a variety of alcohol-related activities.

noon Palm Ridge Whiskey Workshop & Tasting Marti and Dick Waters, owners and master distiller of Palm Ridge Whiskey, will be hosting a presentation on how they craft their hand made whiskeys from Umatilla, Florida. A tasting and discussion will follow.

1pm Spirits Workshop with Manifest Distilling Learn about this local distiller’s process, and the difference between local sourcing vs. fermenting their own spirits, the art of blending, and the differences between various spirits. 

3pm GastroFest’s Homebrew Local homebrewers will present their best brews in the GastroFest 2017 Homebrew Competition. Judges from the local brewing community will determine the Judge’s Choice award winner. The audience will have the opportunity to vote ($1 per vote ticket) for the People’s Choice award winner. The homebrews will be available for sampling during the event.

4:15pm Local Beer Workshop Local brewer Dennis Espinosa will present a discussion of local beer and homebrew. Dennis is the owner of the upcoming brewery in Springfield, Main & Six.

6pm Vegan Wine Tasting SOLD OUT! Not every wine is free of animal products, but they will be at this tasting! Republic National Distributing Company will supply the wines, a flight of four wines, with an explanation as to what makes a wine vegan. Vegan nibbles from Orsay and Black Sheep go along with your vegan wine! $23.40 cost includes Eventbrite fee, taxes and gratuity. Cost at door is $21.14 including taxes and gratuity, but this event sells out, so we recommend buying on Eventbrite.
